Dun's Librarian

The post of Dun's Librarian orginated in the 1780s, when one of the Fellows was appointed to look after Dun's Library. Today the Dun's Librarian is appointed on a three-year terms as the College Fellow with oversight of all matters relating to the Heritage Centre. They also serve as chair of the RCPI Library and Heritage Committee.

The current Dun's Librarian is Prof Brendan Kelly, Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin and Consultant Psychiatrist at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin. As well as his medical qualifications Brendan holds a PhD in the history of medicine, and has published extensively on the history of psychiatry, including Hearing Voices: The History of Psychiatry in Ireland (Irish Academic Press, 2016).

Library and Heritage Committee

RCPI's Library and Heritage Committee has oversight of the management and development of the Heritage Centre, and reports to the Executive and Council on questions relating to the  Centre. The Committee is chaired by the Dun's Librarian, and its membership is made up of Members and Fellows of the College and external experts.
