1-2pm
Join us for a special screening of Anne Maree Barry's Leisure with Dignity, followed by a Q&A with Anne Maree herself.
Leisure with Dignity (2017), Anne Maree Barry, 23mins
Curated by Sheena Barrett for The LAB, Foley Street, Dublin, 2017
Produced by Glen Collins
Director of Photography Richard Donnelly
Supported by The Arts Council.
Leisure with Dignity combines the artists’ own psychogeographic walking tours of the 'Monto' area in Dublin, to create a film that reflects historical events while at the same time presenting a complex portrait of female empowerment. Four characters: Madam May Oblong, Kitty D, Countess Aldborough and The Custom House establish a dialogue between locality, history, architecture, and the independence of women in a specific time.
“Barry’s richly atmospheric film is a clear-headed, unsentimental and subtle mediation on the lives women (in the Monto) could negotiate for themselves within the confining and disabling structures of patriarchal power and authority." Aidan Dunne, The Irish Times, June 2017
Leisure with Dignity (2017) is part of the Arts Council Collection
This is a free event but tickets can be booked through our Eventbrite link here
