Open Days and TV appearances
First of all a big thank you to all those who came in to visit us last Wednesday, for our Open Day for the Science in the City Festival. Everyone here had a great day, and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves too!
If you missed the Open Day don't worry, we have another day coming up in August. The Heritage Centre's annual open day for Heritage Week will be taking place on Tuesday 21st August, and this year's theme will be 'Doctors on the Ball: Sports and Medicine in Ireland'. Keep an eye on the blog for more details in the coming weeks.
The Heritage Centre is also going to hosting a touring exhibition from the Royal College of Physicians, London, for a week in August.
Re-framing Disability is an award winning exhibition exploring a group of rare portraits from the 17th to the 19th centuries, held by the Royal College of Physicians, London. The portraits depict disabled men and women of all ages and walks of life, many of whom earned a living exhibiting themselves to the public. The exhibition uncovers the extraordinary hidden histories behind the portraits and looks at their impact today through contemporary responses from disabled people. The exhibition will be in RCPI from Monday 20th to Friday 24th August, before moving to the Dublin City Library and Archive for the month of September.
Finally, some of the Heritage Centre's collections made a fleeting appearance in Friday's Nationwide, which was celebrating the Science in the City Festival. You can watch the episode
here on the RTE Player, the first part of the episode looks at the history of medicine in Ireland and lasts for about 6 minutes.
