Short list announced for the Kirkpatrick History of Medicine Award 2015

RCPI's Heritage Centre is pleased to announce the finalists for this year's Kirkpatrick History of Medicine Award. The entries were of a very high standard but our judges managed to narrow the applicant's down to a short list of three.

The Irish Poor Law and medical relief for the poor of Belfast in the 1840s
Robyn Atcheson, Queen’s University Belfast

Puerperal Fever in Dublin: The Case of the Rotunda Lying-in Hospital.
Phil Gorey, University College Dublin

Respect and Respectability: Social Class and Insanity in Nineteenth-Century Ireland
Alice Mauger

Each of the three finalists will present their research as a 15 minute presentation to an adjudication panel on Tuesday 13 October 2015 as part of RCPI’s St. Luke's Symposium. The judging panel will select the award winner on the day; the award prize is €500.

This event is open to the public and is free of charge, places can be booked on the RCPI website or by contacting the Heritage Centre at heritagecentre@rcpi.ie or on 01 6698817. The Kirkpatrick Award will follow a series of lectures looking at the impact of the First World War on Irish Medicine and Irish culture. These lectures are also free of charge and places can be booked online.
