St Luke's Symposium: Collegiate Members Committee Research & Innovation Awards

Dr Gráinne O'Kane, Chair of the Collegiate Members Committee, will chair this lively event to showcase the research and innovative talents of doctors in Ireland on Thursday 16 October in the Corrigan Hall, No. 6 Kildare Street, RCPI.


The Collegiate Members Committee Research and Innovation Awards, which will take place between 17:00 and 18:30 with registration from 16.30, form part of the College's annual St Luke's Symposium. At this event, doctors will compete for the Corrigan Medal, a case study competition for SHOs, the William Stokes Research Award, for SpRs, and the David Mitchell Audit Award, open to trainees in all RCPI training programmes. 

The finalists for the three awards are as follows: 

Corrigan Medal:


  • Dr Neidin Bussmann, Cork University Maternity Hospital and Cork University Hospital - Mosaic Edwards Syndrome in Monozygotic live-born Twins: An Unconventional Diagnosis
  • Dr Fergus Keane, Galway University Hospital and Sligo Regional Hospital - Adding fuel to the fire
  •  Dr Louise Rabbitt, Galway University Hospital - "What shot JR?" - Paraneoplastic ocular flutter


William Stokes Research Award:

  • Dr Niamh Daly, The Coombe Women and Infant's University Hospital -The Impact of Preanalytic Glucose Sample Handling when Screening Obese Women for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
  •  Dr Alan Macken, Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin - Vascular and metabolic studies in children whose fathers have premature cardiovascular disease
  •  Dr Conor Woods, Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism- Tissue specific regulation of glucocorticoids in severe obesity and the response to significant weight loss following bariatric surgery (BARICORT)

David Mitchell Audit Award:

  • Dr Ronstan LoboUniversity Hospital Limerick An audit on heart rate control in heart failure patients attending the heart failure clinics of the University of Limerick Group of Hospitals
  • Dr Sarah MelloLetterkenny General Hospital - Audit on Venothromboembolism Prophylaxis Prescribing in an Acute Medical Assessment Unit
  • Dr Siobhan WhelanThe Coombe Women and Infant's University HospitalAudit of AXR for constipation management in Paediatric ED   


Winners will be announced on the night.

This event is free of charge, and is open to all doctors in training (currently those registered on RCPI training programmes), Licentiates, Members and Fellows. 

This year’s CMC awards ceremony is likely to fill up fast as we have received a record number of entries. The only way to guarantee a seat in the audience is to book a place online. The awards ceremony is followed by a wine and canapé reception for all attendees – all trainers & trainees are encouraged to attend these awards.
