Maeve McCarthy is recognised as one of Irelands leading contemporary figurative painters. Working across the genres of landscape, still life and portraiture, McCarthys work is notable for its composition, colour and light.

A graduate of the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, McCarthy has exhibited widely in Dublin and internationally, with her work being recognised by awards from the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) and the Arts Council.

A full member of the RHA, McCarthys works can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Ireland, the National Self Portrait Collection, and the Royal Dublin Society.

 

The Sitter

T  J McKenna served as Registrar of the College from 1996 to 2003, and as President from 2003 to 2006.

At his request, this portrait shows McKenna on the stairs of the Kildare Street building which, during his Presidency, had reopened after a long restoration project.
