To mark the 100th anniversary of the admission of our first female Fellow in 1924, Dr Mary Hearn, we decided to share the biographies of some of the extraordinary women who became Fellows of the College. As a natural evolution to the project, we have now included biographies of RCPI’s past Presidents (formerly Lives of the Presidents). If you would like to contribute to the project, please contact us directly at heritagecentre@rcpi.ie.
Mary Hearn had the unique distinction of being the first female fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. She has an extensive gynaecology practice in Cork.
Paule Cotter was a Cork based haematologist, she was the first female Dean of the Faculty of Pathology in RCPI.
Kate McGarry had a long association with the RCPI and the Irish Heart Foundation. The College was her ‘second home’ and she enjoyed the company of physician colleagues.
