Dr Eoghan Mooney appointed as RCPI's new Dun's Librarian

In July, we officially welcomed Dr Eoghan Mooney as our new Dun’s Librarian. Eoghan succeeds Professor Brendan Kelly, who had held the post since 2023. The Dun's Librarian is appointed on a three-year term as the College Fellow with oversight of all matters relating to the Heritage Centre. Eoghan will also chair the RCPI Library and Heritage Committee, which reports to the Executive and Council.  

Eoghan is a Consultant Histopathologist in the National Maternity Hospital and St Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin. He has a long-standing interest in medical history and has been involved with RCPI’s Faculty of Pathology over many years. Speaking of his new role, Eoghan said he is “honoured to have been appointed Dun's Librarian at an exciting time for the College's collections” and looks forward to contributing to this development.  

Excitingly, Eoghan will be Dun’s Librarian as we fundraise, prepare and build Ireland’s first medical museum in the College’s historic home of No.6 Kildare Street. His support and enthusiasm of the project is very much welcomed, and we are grateful to have him as Dun’s Librarian as we get ourselves ready for such a big venture. 

As we aim for a December 2029 opening, Eoghan’s expertise and oversight will help us expand and develop our collections across the archive, library, medical instruments and Materia Medica. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to working with him over the coming years.
